A REALISTIC ILLUSION

Ladies and gentlemen
I had a dream
I'm not Martin Luther King or anything
But I keep this continent at heart when I sleep

In my dream, an angel showed me our past and future
She asked "Is that how you repay people?
When your heritage was turning into wreckage,
Was it not women who reassembled it?"

"Why are you limiting them to a section of the United Nations Declaration?
I don't have to list her achievements, but she is always the first woman in anything she does."

"It's depressing to have a distressing approval of a gender that has brought so many blessings.
You men gained acclamation while the real heroes are ignored.
You made them chew on insignificance in the sanctuary of their kitchen."

"Women are embodiments of what humanity represents.
They're warlords without going to war,
Have hearts molded by sacrifices
And design their children with pieces of advice"

Then I asked her, what is in our future?
She continued "The day society starts to act on policies that bring justice to your sisters suffering molestation,
The day gender based violence is treated with zero tolerance,
When men will serve prison sentences for
Making derogatory statements,
Will be the moments Africa will reap the fruit of its harvest."

I woke up and became to ponder
Can this dream be a realistic illusion?
Is it possible for men and women to share a market table?
Can this continent's cake be shared fifty-fifty?
Let's make gender equality a vision and bring the African dreams into fruition.
