I’ve been getting this questions, “So how would I get started with embedded development or how can I build robots and drones?†more and more often lately. I will begin by telling you what embedded systems really are and the essential reasons why you should acquire the knowledge. A lady embedded engineer and author of Making Embedded Systems — Elecia White, once said “Embedded systems are terrifying important†because it’s an increasingly interesting, disruptive and lucrative field for designs. Almost anything, from toasters and flashlights to smartwatches, digital TVs, smartphones, airplanes, and electronic control units in cars, has embedded software in it. We don’t generally think of those devices as computers, but they have underlying software that makes them run.
embedded devices
Embedded systems are combinations of hardware and software. The purpose of embedded systems is to control a device, a process or a larger system. An embedded system is a microcontroller or microprocessor based system which is designed to perform a specific task. Specific examples of embedded systems include those controlling the structural units of a car, the automatic pilot and avionics of aircrafts, telematics systems for traffic control, the chip set and software within a set-top box for digital TV, a pacemaker, chips within telecom switching equipment; ambient devices, medicals equipment, and control systems embedded in nuclear reactors.
Why become an embedded engineer?
Embedded engineers write code, but unlike software engineers they need a deep understanding of the hardware it runs on. An embedded engineer knows the schematics of hardware and how chip datasheets relate to the code written for them. They are responsible for designing, developing, optimizing and implementing the software that is programmed into devices built around a microprocessor.
2. Freelance Jobs: Freelancing is on the rise, with more than a third of the US workforce alone working as freelancers rather than traditional employers. Embedded engineering is also in high demand with the rise of products like refrigerators and smart home systems and connected devices using more software.
3. Technopreneurship: Because of recent innovations in prototyping, crowdfunding, marketing, and manufacturing, it has never been easier — or cheaper — to launch a hardware startup than it is now. With your embedded systems knowledge, you can turn a hardware project into a product that you can manufacture in large quantity to sell out to the market.
How to become an embedded developer
First of all, you need to cover your bases. Mastering C as a programming language is a must for embedded engineers. C is considered to be one of the most efficient programming languages. Regardless of what field or company you take a job in, you will probably be working with C. You must understand Low level optimization in assembly language, hardware and its components, Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and Master resource management and allocation.
Because programming embedded systems is a hands-on practice, i advise you to take certified embedded systems courses and would recommend CloudX Training Institute(CTI). They offer 2 months job oriented professional course in Embedded System Design, providing strong knowledge & proper understanding on embedded systems.
At CTI, they provide training in all the relevant disciplines to enable the engineers to design and develop embedded system based application that meets industry standards, offers a wide variety of choices for hardware and software platforms as well as programming languages.
Embedded courses offered at CTI enables the students to have good understanding on embedded systems concepts and its applications. After completion of embedded course, students will design, implement, integrate, and develop software & hardware applications used for advanced embedded systems. The Embedded Systems course content is well structured and mapped with leading industry requirements and their standards.
Embedded Systems Training is suitable for:
Embedded Systems is suitable for Engineering Graduates or anyone who want to make their career in Core domain Eg. Electronics, Embedded Systems, Software Programming, Robotics, IoT, AI, VLSI, DSP.
Course Goal:
Students will become an Industry-ready embedded engineer by completing Embedded System Design certified course.
